Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are used to repair many types of dental problems. Teeth that are worn down, cracked, or broken above the gum line can be covered with a crown, and they are also used for dental bridges, root canals, and implants. Dr. Hansen may be able to fix your damaged tooth with a crown.
Crown placement is one of the most common dental treatments used today. Crowns replace missing teeth or can sometimes be used for cosmetic purposes.
Crowns are made of different types of materials. The optimal crown material will depend on the location of the crown in the mouth, how you want it to look, and your budget. Dr. Hansen can help you decide which option would be best.
All-resin crowns can wear down over time but are an economical choice.
All-ceramic or all-porcelain crowns easily match the color of the remaining natural teeth.
Metal crowns are usually avoided unless used on back teeth since they are silver in color. The back teeth are a great place for them, however, as metal is the strongest material available and can easily withstand the chewing forces in the back of the mouth.
Stainless steel crowns are typically only used for temporary crowns.
Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns can easily match the color of the remaining teeth, but their construction makes them more apt to break or chip.
You can discuss your crown preferences with Dr. Hansen during your consultation.
