Hygiene
Proper dental hygiene involves many different steps. A person should begin learning correct oral hygiene when they are babies. Cleaning the gums of a baby is as important as soon as they are born as it is to teach a toddler to use a toothbrush. A good oral regimen ensures good oral health for an entire lifetime.
Brushing and flossing should be done at least twice a day, as well as using an antibacterial mouthwash. This routine is critical in keeping plaque and bacteria to a minimum in the mouth and reducing the chances of cavities, no matter what age you are.
Professional cleanings every six months are also as important as brushing twice a day because no amount of brushing can eliminate every bit of plaque in the mouth. During a professional cleaning, special tools are used to remove the remaining plaque and make sure that any potential problems are addressed before they become serious.
Ensuring proper oral care also requires proper equipment. A soft-bristled brush that is the correct size for the mouth helps to reach all the teeth (especially the back ones, where it is harder to clean). Regular floss can be used, or dental floss sticks are now available that have handles for better maneuverability and reach.
A good antibacterial mouthwash also helps remove bacteria to promote a healthier mouth.
